🚨 BREAKING — March 16, 2026: Bengaluru’s iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has officially been cleared to host IPL 2026 matches after the Karnataka government’s Expert Committee gave the final green light this morning. The RCB vs SRH season opener on March 28 is fully confirmed at Chinnaswamy — and so is the IPL 2026 Final.
The approval came following a meeting at Vidhana Soudha chaired by Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara, with representatives from the Expert Committee, KSCA, RCB and DNA Entertainment. This ends months of uncertainty that had hung over the fate of one of cricket’s most beloved venues. ✅ Official Statement from KSCA
The KSCA issued an official media release confirming: “During the meeting, the Expert Committee presented its report outlining the preparedness and compliance measures undertaken at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Based on the recommendations of the Expert Committee and after reviewing the arrangements in detail, the Home Minister has formally accorded approval for the conduct of the upcoming IPL matches at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.”
The committee was chaired by G. Maheshwar Rao and included senior officials from the police, PWD, fire force and medical authorities. The audit involved structural compliance checks and crowd control measures — the first time such a rigorous independent inspection has taken place at an Indian cricket venue.

Background: Why Was Clearance Needed?
Chinnaswamy last hosted competitive cricket during IPL 2025. On June 3, 2025 — the night RCB won their maiden IPL title — a tragic stampede during victory celebrations at the stadium resulted in the deaths of 11 fans. The KSCA and government subsequently launched a thorough review of the stadium’s safety infrastructure before permitting it to host matches again.
Under KSCA President Venkatesh Prasad — the former India fast bowler who won a tense KSCA election in December 2025 — the association worked closely with the government and the expert committee to implement all required Phase 1 safety measures. These included:
- Widening of entry and exit gates
- Enhanced crowd control infrastructure
- Medical emergency facilities upgraded
- Social media campaign to inform fans about safety protocols
- Full structural compliance audit passed
RCB Ticket Sales: What’s Next?

RCB are yet to announce ticket sales officially, but the process is expected to begin later this week. Tickets are expected to go on sale via BookMyShow. See our guide: How to Buy IPL 2026 Tickets.
